Our History

St Xavier’s Institutions, Kalaburagi which began as a small institution serving a few students 13 years ago, has today grown into a centre of wisdom for the youngsters of Kalaburagi with a unit like Pre- University College. More than 450 students, both boys and girls pursue their studies in various disciplines. St Xavier’s PU College seeks to establish a congenial environment in which those of diverse cultural backgrounds and religious beliefs can participate in the community, in a spirit of co-operation and mutual respect.

This College belongs to a network of educational institutions administered by the members of the Society of Jesus, a religious order which runs schools, colleges and universities in more than 105 countries in the world. The members of the order, popularly known as Jesuits, have acquired a reputation for excellence in the quality of education. Some of the distinguished Jesuit institutions of higher education in India are St Xavier’s College in Kolkata, St Xavier’s College in Mumbai, Loyola College in Chennai, St Joseph’s College in Trichy, Xavier Institute of Labour Relations (XLRI) in Jameshedpur, St. Joseph’s College in Bengaluru, St. Aloysius College in Mangaluru and Xavier University in Bhuvaneshwar. These and many other highly acclaimed centres of learning are managed by the Jesuits and deeply rooted in Jesuit values of commitment and excellence.
Established in 2009, St Xavier’s Pre- University College prides itself in its history of 13 years. Hundreds of students who have passed through the portals of this institution have rendered outstanding service to humankind.
The Institution also consists of St. Joseph’s English Medium School which began in 2019. The PU College provides Hostel facilities for boys and girls. Despite its status as a minority institution, the Pre- University College has imparted high quality education to all sections of society regardless of caste, colour or creed. The motto of the college, “Knowledge and Light” has inspired countless students to become men and women for and with others, thus bring light and joy into the lives of people.
